Refinement from the ages will surely follow “To live one’s life in the best way: the power to do this resides within our soul, if we are capable of being indifferent to indifferent things.” "Concentrate every moment like a Roman - like a man..." When words are spoken and written, after a thousand years their merit and value is clear. Some of that wisdom should become a part of us. I'm reading Meditations and was struck by this offering early in my read, "Concentrate every minute like a Roman — like a man — on doing what’s in front of you with precise and genuine seriousness, tenderly, willingly, with justice. And on freeing yourself from all other distractions. Barack Obama to John Lewis, 'I got to stand on your shoulders John Lewis.' I have seen John Lewis in newsreels of civic unrest demonstrations for fifty years. I have seen him on television and in Congress advocating for justice and human rights. I will see him no longer for he passed away July 18, 2020. One of the great men - in my opinion - has written the following statement on Medium.com that honours the strength, dedication and life-long effort to right the wrong that was brought to this country centuries ago. Slavery was the evil that brought injustice for a nation of men, women and children from Africa to North America. Slavery brought an insidious disease to the minds of men despite their colour and creed. The concept that one man can rule, chain and punish another with impunity has soiled and mocked the very promise made by the Founders of the United States of America in its Constitution stating that 'All men are created equal.'
