It's June 1, 2026; its been agreed and planned since 1990 that a reunion would be held somewhere on Earth. The intervals would be as required by those wishing and able to attend. In 2026 there where six.
We have met in numerous places in Canada such as Sturgeon Lake 1990, Horseshoe Valley 1995, Hockley Valley 1997, Riverside, Waskasiu, Elk Ridge, Float plane to Carter Lake and Piggies Cabin 1999, Crowne Isle BC 2004, Prince Edward Island Dundarave 2005, Kamloops BC 2006, Blue Mountain Ontario 2007; in the USA such as Palm Springs California 2012, Las Vegas Nevada, and finally in Europe at Mt Wolseley, Ireland 2003 where the beer, the golf, the fishing, the poker games, the music, and the old stories are retold around the fire sparkling into the night skies.

While I write this I'm thinking about our time during 1965 and into the 1970's with our raw and sometimes beautiful moments in Thurstonia Park: a time that helped build and shape our personalities and perspectives on life and a time where three of us found our spouses.
Dan and Rod organized this reunion and somewhere along the way it was labelled 'the last supper.' They did a great job and the six of us enjoyed polishing the old stories as best we could without Ted (Moose) and of course John Delisle who passed in 2024. We six paid a visit to Larry in his home in Whitby and shared a jar wishing him well because he was unable to attend.
Before brother Arch, cousin Bill and Gary came on the Thurstonia scene there where guys like Phil Phillips, Paul McGovern, Paul Deacon, Bob White, Jack McDonald, Danny Weir and others whose lives and character have left their mark on each of ours.

As you may know Gary orders me to write his better etchings, however I wish to end at this point and ask you to forward your photo(s) of this subject along with any appropriate copy to his email: pudsbud@icloud.com
I promise to use it.
Sincerely,
Alexander McPope

The next morning the following email reached my inbox which I gratefully attach to this Blogspot: our 2026 Cccottage Reunion.
Thank you Rod.
"I would like to start by saying a great big thank you to my co co-ordinator the one and only Beachy. He contributed some amazing seafood for our seafood linguini (which was actually spaghetti) as well as a delicious lasagna and helped put together the agenda during several high-level conference calls. He assisted with setting up and packing up and too many other things to mention.
It was also an enlightening trip for Beachy as he was unaware that orcas cannot carry garbage can lids to make noise ( more on this to follow at a later date). Thank you again for breakfast.
The weather cooperated except for one day, we had sunny skies and warm weather. We got in some golf, kayaking, fishing, great conversations, exploring and some really good meals. On the night of our seafood dinner we contacted Ted and Larry to join us through FaceTime. Larry led the prayer and then we had a raucous singing of "Kumbaya." We also had the opportunity to drive to Brooklin and visit Larry, it was great to see him and confirm his humour was still intact.
It was also great to see Ted as he was out walking his doggie and have him join us for dinner. We all want to thank Ted for contributing to our get together even though he couldn't attend in person.
I wanted to also mention that a few of the guys thought the "The Last Supper" might be premature. So who knows what the future brings, maybe there will be another reunion yet !!
In the meantime, thanks for the get-together; it was great seeing everyone. For the first time, some of the women joined us for the last few days. It did bring a different dynamic but it was nice having them join us and add a little class to the joint.
I have too many things going on right now and I am also tired so please accept my apologies.
In the email I just sent, I was remiss in not thanking Gary for providing the amazing rib eye steaks for one of our meals and I should also add that he did a great job cooking them.
I also want to thank Bill, who stepped in and paid for the sandwiches we had at Larry's house.
To Tom who paid for the butter tarts, Nanaimo bars and strawberry/rhubarb pie.
Thanks to Beachy for the beer butt chicken dinner......outstanding job !!!
To everyone including the ladies who helped to keep the place clean.
If I have forgotten anything, thank you in advance. "

"Apologies for the delay in chiming in. After breakfast Ellen and I had a huge bonfire to get rid of a lot of the twigs and branches that had fallen over the winter months. Then we had a downpour to put the fire out . Good thing we were almost done.Bf you covered all the bases except the fact that you were indeed the impetus behind The (maybe) last supper. Cooking awesome breakfasts and making sure we old farts didn’t hurt ourselves. This wouldn’t have ever happened without you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. By the way, one of the unsung certainly deserves a great BIG thank you! So thank you Carol for all you did to make our last few days feel like we were at an all inclusive.Bill for his Eggs Benny too! So good!Better sign off now.I am very grateful to have you all in my life !"
So ends the 2026 Cccottage Reunion at Pigeon Lake in Ontario.
There were six of the qualified attendees present this time. We know the others would have been with their friends of 70 plus years if the cards had been dealt differently, but that seldom happens when the average age of those still fishing, golfing, playing poker, euchre, cribbage, white water rafting, beer drinking, fun loving guys wanting to tell and listen to the old and new stories are between 79 and 85 years of age.
I'll make a prediction: This has not been the 'Last Supper.'
"Thanks for the memories." [Bob Hope]

DeleteWhat an excellent post. Great photos with excellent captions. The prose is bittersweet and full of wisdom, love and gratitude. Thanks for sharing this and, of course, here's hoping this is not the last Last Supper.
