Shall we save something for ourselves? April 23, 2020

Image
Who carries the load ""Save something for yourself. In this age of social media, we tend to put everything out in the world to be judged, liked, and/or commented on by friends and strangers alike. If you want to stay sane, you’ve got to save a bit of yourself for yourself. There should be a part of your life and soul that are reserved just for you. Be your own safe haven. Other people aren’t entitled to every ounce of who you are. If you don’t keep a bit of you for you, you’ll find yourself burnt out at some point."" The above paragraph was plucked from another writer's article and placed here because its statement has caused me to think. And because thinking is a good thing, sometimes additional thought will change one's mind, soften or harden it so much so that your past interpretations could be seen as flawed. With that having been said, let's allow this thread to spread. I selected this photograph of this painting for the vibrant colours as w...

8 characters enjoying Carnival activities in Montevideo Uruguay January 2019 April 16, 2020. We and the majority of the world's people are self-isolating in our homes. Non-essential business is shut down putting millions of people out of work. Most doctors, nurses, staffers and support people however, are run off their feet. Truck drivers, delivery people and grocery clerks are doing double duty while they too, remain six feet apart from any and all who approach. Two blogposts ago Coronavirus COVID-19 was in its infancy and my account on the issues are  on Garfield's Legacy Fund  and dated March 12 and March 20, 2020. Today statistics will shock anyone into the realization that we are fighting a war against a formidable foe. Worldwide we have 2,127,873 confirmed cases...540,575 patients recovered...and 141,454 deaths. The upside of these numbers might be that the recovered patients are four times the number of deaths. [Also its worth noting that these numbers are incorre...

A Paraprosdokian, April 5, 2020

At the Tradition Brampton Golf Club 2018 "We never really grow up - we only learn how to act in public." This is a 2018 photo of Terryl and me. We met on October 28, 1998 and drove to Bert and Ernies, a bar in the west end of Toronto. The introduction was made by Florence Pappain a mutual friend from Brampton Golf Club in my case and Air Canada in Terryl's place. That first meeting was very pleasant and a small spark must have ignited because you can see by the caption that twenty years have gone by just like that. This photo was taken before the outdoor meal was served after a suitable time following the on-course event for men only. The order of finish is not relevant; suffice it to say that it was a sunny glorious day on the golf course and a good time was had by all. What's this Paraprosdokian? Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Winston Churchi...

A favourite Zebra on April 4, 2020 and a word or two on TGLF.ca

One half of a colourful Zebra It's April 4, 2020 and I'm at the MacAir looking for inspiration. I thought I'd start with my photograph of a piece of art I admire for its depth of colour; its focus on  one eye that appears to know more than the average Zebra who likes his uniqueness; its cropping to include 48% of the animal; and the artistic grading of its primary colours: black, white, red, yellow and very subtle gradation around the eye and nose. In hindsight I wish I had purchased this piece but at the time in Zanzibar, Tanzania we only had American Dollars and couldn't make change to fit the price. I can see this painting on my wall in the den someday, but all I can do now is go to the photo lab and have a large blow up made, and frame it. And then there is the matter of being 'denless' at this time as well. That's another story for another post that may or may not come to fruition. Dear Readers, you may know that the writer has another webs...
